Networking Icebreakers That Really Work

Networking Icebreakers That Really Work

We’ve practiced our Millennium Events Management networking skills in all kinds of settings, from big industry conferences to more intimate local meetups. Through our efforts, we’ve learned that the following types of questions are effective icebreakers that can quickly lead to strong rapport.

Sometimes the best place to start when getting to know someone is the beginning. With that in mind, we often ask potential contacts how they got started in our business. Everyone has a unique story about how they entered the industry and what helped them find success. However, we’re often surprised by just how much we have in common when it comes to our earliest experiences in the business world.

We also ask new connections about their favorite books as a way to quickly get a sense of their personalities. This question immediately identifies a person’s passions both inside the industry and away from work. If nothing else, asking about a person’s favorite book is almost always a good entry point into a deeper conversation.

As we add to our Millennium Events Management contact lists, we find that every potential connection is facing some kind of unique challenge. By offering to help in whatever ways we can, we set the tone for a mutually beneficial bond right from the outset.

These kinds of questions continue to sharpen our networking efficiency.
